Ocean Liner History and Stories from the Sea, Past and Present. With an In Depth focus on Holland America Line

Werkhoven van, C.A.A.

Werkhoven small

Captain van Werkhoven was a cargo ship captain in the 1960’s.

Note:  I have hardly any information yet about his captain. The company records are sealed within the HAL pension fund  and other sources are non existent.

So if a reader, family, friends, relatives, can supply any information about captain van Werkhoven then please contact me on CaptAlbert1@aol.com.   It will greatly help to lift another “captain of the past” from obscurity.

Sometime in the 70’s he changed from Holland America to become a deep sea pilot for the Dutch company “Dirkzwager”.  This company provided services to cargo (and cruise ships) who liked to have a pilot on board for traversing areas of the North Sea that were complicated and where the ship’s navigation team was un-familiar with. This especially applied to supporting tankers who could have drafts that barely allowed them to sail tanker routes approaching a port of destination. (a)

  1. I remember a past captain not on your list
What ever happened to Captain VanCouverden

    • Thank you for reading my blog.

Captain Jack van Coevorden is happily retired and spends most of his time fishing in Alaska in the summer.

He will eventually appear, as will a few other captains, when I can find the time to upload.

      Best regards

      Capt. Albert
